That's a shame. Not unexpected though, as it seems to be the trend in cars these days to meet safety standards and comfort/tech feature targets. Lightweight materials can quickly add cost, and this car's price point requires certain compromises.

Totally expected and acceptable. I think Nissan kept this where it needed to be given the added safety features and more complex engine. Looking at the Supra's weight, this should definitely be a player in the inevitable comparison:

Im not sure I would base his "tick more" comment off of the base 370z.. Dont you all think the 2023 Z with the upgraded infotainment new dash and leather seats ect is maybe a little more comparable to the touring or somewhere in between that and the outgoing sport atleast ? I dont have any more info than his comment but im going to guess even the 2023 Z sport is a maybe 3450lb That is just based off like stated above safety and tech over time get heavier and this Z doesnt have anything radical expensive carbon panels / rotors ect to cut into that.

Yeah I think you're right. Somewhere between the 370Z Sport Touring and 50th anniversary would make more sense.

If it’s 3500 pounds or less, I will have no issue with the weight. With a turbo motor and that kind of torque, it will be less sensitive to slight weight gain than it has been in the past…

It'll be around 3400lbs. It was always going to be. It's a 370z with modified suspension and an engine swap. 370z was around 3300+.

At 3400lbs with 400hp the power to weight is great for the price.

That sounds about right.

I hope weight reduction in the NISMO model (if it ever happens) will be noticeable enough.

But before that happens there should be some mods that will help us a bit here. Like a carbon fiber hood and and rear hatch, probably from SEIBON. Together they should cut at least 50 lbs.

I would say carbon fiber doors but as a DD I worry about safety.

Depends on where the weight is. If the added weight lowers the center of gravity, possibly better handling. Also, if the F/R weight balance is vastly different than the 370Z, the dynamics will be different. With the turbos and related piping, I wouldn't be surprised to see more front weight bias compared to the 370Z.

Thanks for the detailed explanation. What I can guess is that the area where the weight is increased (or lowered) plays an important role in the dynamics of the vehicle. Am I correct?

Yeah, that's actually insane they kept it around the same +/-. With all the tech built in, being fully loaded on the Performance trim, it puts it close in line with the Sport Touring. People are like omfg it's hundreds of pounds heavier. Meanwhile, do the math...

We’re all friends here (supposedly) so I say, to each their own. The only Z I’d buy is one with a stick because it’d be solely a weekend fun & fair weather car that’ll see neither traffic, rain, snow nor salt and every fun car I’ve owned has been a stick. That said, I look forward to seeing ANY Z on the road later this year, stick OR automatic.

Agreed 100% I don't think anyone should have to justify why they want a manual or an auto. A Z is a Z to me. Both my 350's were manual and I wouldn't have had it any other way. But at the time paddle shift 9 speed wasnt a thing back then. I really think having a manual option in the new Z is great. It's just sometimes I feel that same sentiment towards auto isn't reciprocated throughout the community
