Speedometer Gauge Motor vehicle Vehicle Steering wheel

With a significant step up in power, I think its safe to say acceleration and quarter-mile times should fall for the new Z compared to the outgoing model, but by how much?

I'm excited to see track testing for the new Z, but I guess I'll have to keep being patient and just kill the time with speculation in the meantime. Who wants to join me in making an educated guess?

MotorTrend's last instrumented test (that I can find with a lazy Google search) of the 370Z was a 2017 model and they recorded the quarter-mile in 13.7 seconds at 102.7 mph.

A Car and Driver test of the 2021 Q60 Red Sport did the quarter in 12.8 seconds at 111 mph.

Think the new Z could do 12.5? Maybe better?

hopefully 12.5 for the auto in perfect conditions and maybe 12.7 for the manual? I dont think it will do better than that

once I figure out the nuances of the car i will try for an absolute best run on a stock car just like I did in the GTR world.

Those seem like realistic times and enough for most folks. Plus this isn't meant to be a straight line car.
I'm really looking forward to how it performs in road course testing

What drag racing facility do you use?
there is a big 4 lane dragway right beside the NASCAR track in Charlotte NC called ZMax. that is the closest full 1/4 to me but they only open up to the public a handful of times a year and ive never went when they bothered to prep it well for street cars. I barely ran a 10.9 in my NISMO there. but there is a 1/8 mile about 10 mins from me that has really good prep and I go up there for the best times. so first run with the Z will be at the 1/8th probably. curious to see what type of 60ft time the auto can pull off maybe 1.8's I dunno. personal best for the GTR was a there 1.54 on a sticky track

Not too concerned about the ET, I tend to look at the trap speed. My guess is no less than 114 mph trap for the 9AT Z. Maybe 108 for the 6MT.

That 2017 370 you mentioned must have been a 6MT.

Personally, I consider anything that traps over 110-ish to be reasonably entertaining.

Very cool. I haven't been to a drag strip to run since I was in my early 20s.

Also, love that the strip is called ZMax! haha

For reference, the Q60 RS weighs in at around 3,860lbs.
And with all the new electronics, sensors, and warning stuff coming on the new Z as standard, I'm thinking it will be very similar in weight which is why they haven't told us the weight of it yet.
I really hope it will be 3,500lbs or under, but I highly doubt it.
So with that I'm hoping to see 1/4 mile times of around 12.8 - 12.6 with the auto, and closer to 13.3 - 13.0 with the manual.
What I really want to see is how they will do modified with simple stuff like exhaust and a tune.
There are plenty of Q60's out there with simple mods blowing the doors off of Camaro SS's and Mustang GT's and I can't wait to be doing the same in the new Z!

The Nissan Z has a 400-500 weight deficit over a q50/q60 red sport
The stock vr30 engine tune has a lot of room to play with hopefully after Nismo tunes the engine its making a lot more power
The merc 9 speed transmission(JR913E) has way better shift times than the q50/q60 red sport and should reduce drivetrain loss
An lsd should help with traction even though its not awd its got a shorter final drive ratio compared to the q50/q60 platform
Its got launch control
With all these things^^^ on a track the new z could go low 12 possibly break into the 11s (in the right conditions)
There's plenty of q50s/q60s running 10s I wouldn't be surprised if this platform turns out to be a straight line monster

yeah supra forums are loving it.

on the bright side that 12.3 was with spinning. you can even see traction control light up on the dash and its on the front stretch of a road course. so im thinking on a sticky dragstrip with letting some air out the tires I can get this car to 12 flat. would love to see a 11.9 in a unicorn run but not sure its possible

I used to be the king of min/maxing stock 1/4 mile times in the GTR. I would go to the strip with no gas then splash some 100 octane in there run about 26PSI in the rears put the suspension in comfort mode.... take the floor mats out tuck the side mirrors. whatever it took. also helps I weigh about 150 soaking wet lmao
