At the 12:30 mark of this video of the Boulder Gray Z, Jonathan Buhler, Nissan Senior Product Specialist says that the Zs with the 9-speed automatic transmission will have Sport Mode with Active Muffler Exhaust.

Manual Zs will not come with active exhaust and apparently will be quieter

Dang, I feel like active exhaust should’ve been offered as a standard feature on all performance trim models, regardless of transmission.

A while back there was that video of the Gray Z driving through the canyons. I’m not sure what transmission that particular car was, but if it was one of the 9 A/T models, that explains why it seemed a little bit louder than some of the other exhaust clips that have been shared.

Nonetheless, I feel like a lot of owners will probably be upgrading to an aftermarket exhaust anyways, so maybe it’s not that big of a deal, but it would’ve been nice for the active exhaust to be included on the manuals as well.

Also, don’t quote me on this, but I feel like I remember hearing about this with the Hyundai Veloster N. I saw a video on YouTube sometime last year, where I believe somebody swapped the exhaust from the DCT version onto their manual Veloster N for the same reason.

im assuming this is similar to the 2017+ GTR where there is a valve in one of the sides of the exhaust that open and shut? on the GTR there is a actually a switch to turn it on / off. you think the Z might just be RPM based where it opens and shuts based on throttle?

Yeah because we all know people who drive manual Z's want a quieter exhaust?

I'm thinking RPM and speed based to keep noise levels down in areas with lower speed limits.

If compared, which among the two will be quieter? Automatic with AME or Manual without it? Any idea?
