Z prices have been increasing at a rate that could eventually bring it much closer to the MKIV Supra. Last year was the biggest spike and thankfully reasonably priced Z32's are still be found, BaT had some.

I look at BAT almost every morning to see what’s new and what sold for how much the day before. The 300ZX TT sells for $40K-$60K in collector condition w/low miles. One recently sold in the $70’s but it was heavily modified and the bidders put a high value on what was likely a quality build. The TT Z’s, RX-7’s and Mitsubishi VR4’s will never reach MKIV pricing parity because the MKIV TT was not only the star of the FF franchise, but it had an overbuilt six, making it ripe for tuners who found tons of reliable hp that could also be driven daily. It was a perfect storm of positivity that made the MKIV the collector car it is today. That’s not a knock on any of the other cars which are outstanding in their own right. It’s just that the MKIV was and still is king for a reason.

Maybe the impending success of the Z will make Toyota rethink foisting a BMW on the Supra community who largely despise it. Time’s running out for ICE cars so we probably won’t see a real Toyota answer to the Z - unless Toyota decides to make a Lexus “supercar” using an updated TOYOTA inline six TT (500hp+) in the LC chassis with an optional stick in the $100K+ range. That ersatz Supra might make me willing to put off retirement by a year to buy one.

Yeah, I read about it. While the next “Supra” might be an EV, it would be a Supra in name only because a Supra has a TT six cylinder ICE moving it and it’s made by Toyota, not Germany. By that definition (to which I subscribe) we do not currently have Supra, but a BMW Z4 with a Toyota badge. As for the manual, I think if it could default or manually be switched to automatic (for traffic), it would be interesting and improve EV engagement but EV+manual could never replace the ICE+manual.

I’ll replace my G37S Coupe 6MT with a Z, not an EV. Further, an EV is best for DD so I’ll get an EV sedan/wagon when the time comes, not a two-seater EV.

It'll be interesting to see just how the tech develops for these "manual" EVs. I wish Ford shared more details about the manual transmission setup in their Mustang Lithium SEMA build from a couple years ago.

Agreed. It’ll make for a lot of good reading in the interim. I can’t deny that a manual EV smacks of artificial exhaust sound coming through a car’s stereo. I don’t think I’ve ever read an article in which the author said, “yeah, I like this sound better than the real exhaust”. In that vein, my prejudice remains skeptical of a manual EV but I’m open-minded to it.

Rather than try and recreate an engine sound in an EV I prefer what some manufacturers are doing where they create a sound that either uses the sound of the electric motors or they create a sound completely from scratch.
