The Firehawks are one of the better mid-range summer tires for the Z, in my experience. Respectable grip and tread life, attractive profile design. You can do worse than Kumho Ecsta PS31s, too. I run those, currently.

I'm partial to Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S. They're amazing on my BMW and great on wet roads too.

They're pricey, but hands down the best tire I've used so far between my buddies GTI and my RX8. They give you a ton of confidence with the grip

Best Performance for what, street and mild tracking? I'd wait until the new Z comes out, especially on the Sport and Nismo models where the factory rubber might be best since the whole chassis tuning will be set up around the selected factory tire(s).

As far as dedicated track tires, that's a whole separate discussion, depends on that tracking goals. I've used plenty of R-comps over the years.

This is really true. I never thought about this with sports cars as much until I spoke with a Nissan engineer about the GTR. everyone was questioning them as to why they were so hell bent on using a runflat tire when the car started to come up short in head to head tests. other cars would be putting down lap times with michelin cup 2 ect and nissan doubled down on the sport runflats. the engineer told me the tire was developed as part of the suspension. specifically in the case of the GTR the harder sidewall of that tire let them make the suspension not as harsh as it would have been with a softer sidewall tire. the result is a more versatile road suspension. that doesnt directly translate to what we are talking about here but it goes to show the OEM tire in some cases is very purposeful more than just whats the stickiest tire we can put on there.

As far as street tires go you can't go wrong with the Pilot Sport 4S, but I'd highly recommend the Continental ExtremeContact Sport. Really good in both dry and wet conditions.

I have Eagle F1's on my Camaro. Good tire, but they have worn quicker than I would have liked. They also double as roller skates in temps lower than 40F.

The Pilot Sports have been top of the heap for a little while now - but, with most high performance tires, I think the tread wear leaves something to be desired.
