Wow. That looks much worse to me. I find it head scratching how he said Nissan has lost the proportion of the Z but his alters it further astray. That rear end roofline should not level off, it should be a seamless curved slope that does not flatten at the end. Nissan actually achieves this while his has a flat section at the back which ruins the shape. The front reminds me of a Ford Fusion. The sharp contours around the lights that mimic the hollowed out headlight housing of the 240 were also replaced by those lumpy blobs. The chrome and old door handles are nice but I think Nissan struck a beautiful balance between retro and modern.

Chip Foose does well with designing hot rods and classic American cars, just not with anything else, as clearly seen here. He turned the Z into a Mustang and is clearly out of touch with what the Japanese car community would actually like to see.

Now that you mention Ford. The back end reminds me of a Mustang.

I feel kinda vindicated here. While I’m not a big fan of Chip’s designs, he latched onto an issue with the Z’s headlights that I’ve found to be it’s 2nd biggest flaw (gaping maw is the 1st) - the awkward pinched headlights that don’t resemble those of any Z before it, 240 or otherwise. I wouldn’t have said anything about the headlights (as I’ve done so excessively in the past) were it not for seeing this Foose video. I don’t think he addressed that the Z’s design is inexorably tied to the hard mounting points of the 370Z on which it’s based. I like Foose’s design much better than the one we’ll get, but that wouldn’t affect my decision to purchase as substance is more important than style in any car (to me). If I win the lottery any time soon, I might just take him up on his offer to turn a Z into the one he’s sketched.
