Welcome to the forum @MCN1SMO !
Love the passion. You're a legend!
I'm sure the place could use some help as it grows, especially from someone with forum expertise.
Do you have any insider info from the Nissan folks about the car? We still haven't heard anything about a potential release date.
Pleasure to have you on the forum @MCN1SMO! Welcome! It's great to have someone with your knowledge and experience on here! I love what you've done with your 350Z's. Subtle changes that make a huge difference and I'm sure they're both fast as hell.Whats up! This is MC from GTRLIFE and NAGTROC. Ive been running and creating online forums since 2004, all primarily in the Nissan Enthusiast community. I got my start my350z.com just being a contributor then moderator and moving up the ranks ect. I took over as Admin of that site and ran it for about 3 years. After that I joined 350z-tech.com and created a side project called MYGTR.com. Along with a small group of fellow enthusiasts we founded the NAGTROC (North American GTR Owners Club) in 2007. This site was one of the first of its kind in North America as the Nissan GTR had never been officially sold here until 2008. We quickly grew as the build up and eventual launch of the car drove many fans and eventual owners to us.
I treated the owners club like a 24/7 job and because of the dedication was able to work with Nissan marketing and product planners here in the US and Canada acting as a go between for Nissan and the owner base. We helped organize many events and track days ect and built a solid relationship with the company. In 2014 for all the work I had put into the community Nissan even presented me with the 1st Serial Number Nissan GTR NISMO ever built for the North American Market. VIDEO REPORT: Long awaited 2015 Nissan GT-R NISMO at home in N.C.
I still Admin GTRLIFE today and it is also part of the VerticalScope family just like this newnissanZ.
My original passion that got me involved with Nissan has always been the Z. Im looking to get back heavily involved with the car and community. Up until I moved to the GTR platform in 2008 , between me my mom and we owned one of each generation Z since the 240. I grew up around Zs my whole life andmy first memory of one was my moms 280! Iv personally owned a 2003 350Z with the NISMO S-Tune upgrades as well as a 2007 350Z NISMO #33 that i used primarily for AutoX. After those I moved into a 2009 then 2012 and finally the NISMO GTR. I cant wait to get back behind the wheel of a Z and back into ownership when it arrives next year and wanted to join up and offer any contributions or assistance I can to the community as we await on the arrival of the new Z!

What were your initial reactions when you saw the Z Proto? Is there anything you would change on the car? I think for most of us on here the only big thing people (including me) would tweak is the front grille.
Also, have you started thinking about what you're going to do with the Z/400Z? Are you going to add some mods or keep it stock?
I don't mind that Nissan didn't add much to the sides because it gives the car such a clean look. They might have done that also to let people do their own mods but that might be me reaching. For the grille I wish they didn't make it so square but I get why they did, it's not a deal breaker for me. If they do add ProPilot they should have a lot of space there to put it.My initial reactions were I loved the overall purist shape. The 300z style tailights were a highlight for me as it broke away from the car being just a straight evolution of the 370/350 by going back and incorporating something from that 90s era but yet modern. Honestly I thought the front was a little plain not bad in any way just not an immediate wow factor. There is more going on with the grill when you really start to examine it and that mouth is not just a plain rectangle. the patent pictures look like there will be the propilot sonar in the grill.
I just think it could have used something maybe on the side area where side markers would have been on previous generation cars. maybe like some brake cooling ducts or vertical slits or just something to break up that fairly large area of space. And maybe have the mouth and the lip meet kind of like how the NISMO 350 looked to deminish the perfect rectangle look a bit or even have the bottom blacked out. so really only changes arnt to the design or shape but just making look a but less simplistic. The yellow has a ton of heritage, but just not my personal taste. I think some sort of metallic neutral color might have helped with the initial gut reactions. but I get it its a very purist design language and really the Anti-Supra as looking at them in a side by pics is just a striking difference in approach.
Interior was just fine no real surprises there and about what I expected.
Im assuming the production model will loose most if not all the carbon being a sub 50K car and the design studio mock up sort of already hinted at that. Brakes wont be the GTR brakes and we have already seen a possible production wheel from the print out on the mock up. If the teaser video mock up car was in the new Boulder Pearl I would really like to see that in person as it will add some contrast to the areas I expect to be black instead of actual carbon on the production car. I will probably go that color or black on mine.
I will probably keep it stock as im going to keep it until the hopefully midlife cycle NISMO version as that will be my real endgame with new Z. Im hoping to get back into AutoX with it. I was pretty heavily involved for about 13 years but Ive taken a break as after about a year of it in the GTR NISMO...... it wasnt really worth the cost and risk to that car. My daily driver is a 2017 NISMO Sentra and that thing wont quite cut it out there with the CVT.
I wish I had better pics of my 2003 Z these below were only saved as thumbnails from that long ago. . I had some fairly rare NISMO parts on it. I had the authentic V1 and V2 bumpers 18 and 19" LMGT4s NISMO exhaust ect. the 2007 NISMO I only had it for 8 months and only mod was the NISMO Cone Dual intakes.

The battleship grey that came out after really gives a nice contrast to the yellow.

This 400Z Looks Like A Production Model Spotted During...

That makes sense to keep it stock then. Would you keep it along with a NISMO version or trade it in?

Since you're ultimately looking for a Z to get back into autocross I think the Z's twin turbo V6 from the Q60 will be perfect for you.

Wow, my350z.com! Now you’re bringing back memories. I wish I remember my old password. I don’t have any pictures of my old 350z since I’ve changed phones many times since , but I had some photos on that forum. I wish I could somehow get those photos back!! Welcome to the site @MCN1SMO!Thanks! yeah I always use that pic of me sitting on that 280z to prove my Nissan street cred since day 1 haha. Over christmas I found a pic of my Dad's burgandy 300ZX too
yeah the VR30DDTT seems pretty cool. the individual intercoolers by the turbos is interesting I think it will be great for the Z at least in stock(ish) form havent really researched the mod limitations on it that much. As for AutoX this might sound sacrilegious but its possible I will be going with the automatic. both my 350zs were of course manual but I will be doing daily driving in this one and it wont be just a weekend car at all so im on the fence about what to do. I never heard anything that bad about the 370z Auto but this article scares me a bit as i assume it will be the same transmission. 2020 Infiniti Q60 Red Sport 400 review: When beauty isn't enough but ive got some time to decide which direction to go. I know nissan has a new 9 speed they are moving their heavier pathfinder away from the CVT and into that. but I dont think there is anything in the pipleline new coming for the Z or not? only time i remember driving the 7 speed from Nissan. is briefly on a 370z during a nissan track event I attended and then when my mom had an Infiniti FX50 for a while.
This new Z at its core besides the design seems the be a fairly parts bin heavy car and not something brand new from the ground up. Thats not a bad thing though. but the engine transmission and chassis( for the more part) seem to be carry overs of existing products. The japananese jouralist that did the under body walkaround showed a lot of 370 under there for example.
so I dont expect a switch to dual clutch or anything anytime soon even though that technology is way more common now than the early GTR days. I just would hate to get caught in that 2nd year upgrade manufacturer trap like what happened to 2020 Supra owners where the 2021 was a big difference happened to my dad twice on corvettes. his first year C6 was still the 4 speed auto and his first year C7 was i believe the only year they kept the C6 speed before going to the new 7
yeah and with paddles you can just keep smacking it down into 2nd gear which works. The worst is having to AutoX a CVT. I tried that in a Juke NISMO R a few times as I had one as a daily driver. you had to use the paddles to keep knocking it down to find those fake small ratios the entire time lol ive only ever driven a 370Z auto on track once and that was back at Circuit of Americas in Austin for like 3 laps total then the next few laps they put me in a manual 370 on the spot and I hadnt touched a manual in like 5 years before thatWelcome to the site @MCN1SMO!
Other outlets are saying the same thing that the 400Z should come with the Q60's automatic transmission. It's the most logical option for Nissan to go with. It's not like they're going to slip the GT-R's transmission in there. Have you competed in races with automatic transmissions?

New Nissan 400Z 2021: Automatic transmission confirmed while Nismo, convertible versions a possibility
Nissan has confirmed its next Z sports car will be offered with an automatic transmission, in addition to the manual gearbox shown in the concept, while different body styles like a convertible and Nismo-tuned version are also being considered.Speaking towww.carsguide.com.au
When in the manual 370Z, how well did the rev-match work at track speeds? I'm assuming the same software will be in the 400Z, and hoping synchros and clutches are beefed up.yeah and with paddles you can just keep smacking it down into 2nd gear which works. For as much flack paddle shifters get it's nice to just to tap it into the right gear and focus more on the road.yeah and with paddles you can just keep smacking it down into 2nd gear which works.
