While I would LOVE to see it called simply, “Z”, and nothing more (it’s my first choice too), we’re talking about the company that screwed up the entire Infiniti line with their awful and confusing-to-this-day “Q/QX” names, eliminating the only enthusiast transmission, a manual, while also getting rid of the reliable and sweet-sounding NA V6 beloved by G and Z fans everywhere (I’m happy the 370Z was left alone). So if you’re expecting a sensible and purist, “Z”, as the name, I wouldn’t feel too confident but I hope I’m wrong. If - again, that’s IF - Nissan insists on more than the letter, Z, I’d prefer a HP number either precedes or follows the “Z” moniker.definitely just "Z" as said above. The design pays tribute to many different generations and is likely to be the last ever generation of a purely gasoline powered Z. the car also has a purist and even minimalist vibe to it... so just make it Z
Nissan has to know the whole Infiniti naming debacle didn't do squat to improve a thing at Infiniti. This thread is about what the Z should be named. Seems most agree that just, “Z”, should be the name. No arguments here. I simply offered an alternative to “Z” because I believe some knucklehead at Nissan will likely want to put his/her marketing degree stamp on it and add some numerical designation. My suggestion of using a number for hp, while a turd sandwich idea compared to “Z” alone, wouldn’t be an issue to register as a new name any more than it was an issue to go from 350Z to 370Z. The number 400 (or maybe 400-something) will likely be used to designate hp somehow as it happens to coincidentally be a round number well above the outgoing 370. Time will tell.Nissan has to know the whole Infiniti naming debacle didn't do squat to improve a thing at Infiniti.
When I picked up my Q60, the darn PDI guys put QX60 manuals in the glove box! Can you blame them??
A HP rating to define the name would be a registration issue. If every time Nissan wants to fiddle with HP, and use that as a naming basis, they'll need to register that new variant. What a hassle.
I’m replying to myself as I just read about the Canadian 400Z trademark which all but eliminates the need for further discussion about the Z’s name. If they spent the money on 400Z in Canada, that’s what it’ll probably be here. This thread is about what the Z should be named. Seems most agree that just, “Z”, should be the name. No arguments here. Great point, but what we want may be irrelevant because the name has likely already been decided for the US. We just haven’t seen evidence of it yet. “Fingers crossed” for “Z”.Another reason I want it to be Z and not 400z is so the name of this site makes more sense and we don't have to do any major rebranding other than some edits to the forum descriptions
