Hello Everyone! My name is Stephen Tevis and I am the General Manager at the dealership in question! The information that was sent via text was incorrect, the info got trickled down to our internet manager thru a couple of different people thus the info being wrong. Nevertheless, we are NOT marking 'our' Z up $50K!! It was a discussion that I personally had with a few other Nissan dealers and the $50K number came up in that conversation. We have never marked a car up that much and just wouldn't. We have been in business for almost 50 years and gouging our customers is not how we achieved longevity. The Z is an incredible car and we are looking for to seeing it as I'm sure you all are, there are only 11 coming to our region which includes over 230 dealers. We are proud of the heritage of the Z but not so proud that we will bend our morals to sell it. How much are you marking it up then? I'm sure that there is a markup based on your response. Otherwise you would have said we are selling it at MSRP. I could care less how limited the initial batch of Zs will be, there will be many more to come.

I refuse to deal with any dealership that gouges customers, especially on new models or limited production vehicles. I understand that the Proto is limited to 240 copies and therefore has a higher MSRP, but I'd rather have the non Proto anyway.

I just spoke with a dealer in VA who had a Proto Spec. It sold for $80,000 with an MSRP of less than 55k. Who is buying these cars? Do they really think the car is going to be worth that much or more down the road. You would be better off to put your 80k in the stock market for the long haul.

Both of you make valid points. However, there is no way to know if the Proto will become a true collector car, probably for 20 or 30 years. Anyone who pays 20 to 50k more than MSRP is taking a chance that they will ever get their money back, much less make money. And if the Proto does become a vehicle sort after by collectors driving it very many miles will decrease it's value. And eventually the new Z itself is unlikely to become a collector car once a sufficient number have been produced. It's not like only 240 Zs total will be produced.

If you are going to pay $129,991 for a Proto, you definitely wouldn't want the dealership to do your car washes. 😉

I got a call from Bellevue Nissan in Washington state very recently. They have one Proto and want $129k lol.

I would tell him most people pay retail for certain things, but few pay more than twice retail for anything. Then I would tell him to F off. 😆
