Nissan just revealed the new Z logo!

Nissan has filed a new trademark with the Canadian government of what the new Z logo is going to look like!

Earlier this week they also filed trademarks for the same logo in New Zealand and Australia!

Based on the way the logo is designed it looks like Nissan is going with a retro vibe, which is really cool to see. I wonder if it will reflect the car as well?

VERY excited. I really hope they go with a retro look.

To give some perspective, the original 240Z logo looks like the one below. VERY similar.

Wow, it's pretty much the same logo as the old one. I love it!
Autoblog spoke with people that attended a Nissan dealers meeting and according to them the Z is going to have a "heritage-inspired design". If that's true then Nissan has a winning formula on their hands.

Nissan is reportedly hard at work on the next-generation of its legendary Z car (although the company won’t explicitly confirm), and we’re hearing it will have a familiar look. Sources who have seen the upcoming sports car at dealer meetings told us it will feature heritage-inspired design. “They’re going back to the roots of the car,” one source told us.

Long time Nissan sports car owner here. Had a 240sx since I was 17 :D, years later a 300zx and a 370z currently.

This is what I have to add:

The new Nissan Z is expected to be named a 380Z or 400Z. Or alternatively, it could be just "Nissan Z." Also, inside sources I know say the Nissan Z is definitely coming next year, so it can't be much longer till Nissan announces the official name, release date, specs, price, horsepower, torque, options, features and just about everything we need to know. I just hope its the Z successor we all actually want.

Also, comparing the original 240z logo to the new Nissan Z logo, there are some interesting things to note:

BEFORE I note my observations, what do you guys think these differences in the logo designs could be telling us?

It definitely means that Nissan is going retro with the new Z.

Also it looks like Nissan could be getting a fresh rebrand at the corporate level too.

What? That's not a real new logo is it? No way....

Apparently the logo was registered for trademark in Great Britain, Peru, Uruguay, Chile, and Argentina.

I like the new logos. I also see how the new Z logo has a definite retro influence. They could have chosen to make it look all modern like the new corporate logo, but they didn't. The new 400Z is definitely going to have some retro themes.
Do you really think it will be called the 400Z?

Maybe. I think "Nissan Z" would be better than 400Z. I feel like if Nissan calls it 400Z the car better start with at least 400 horsepower.

I'm not going to say no to 400 horsepower lol, but 400Z does seem like a strong possibility, or at least a number that's higher than 370.
I think there is something we all missed here. Nissan’s Canadian trademark filing is a reference to the logo being used with “Electrically-assisted land vehicles...”

Electric assist -- this new Z is going to come with electric motors adding additional power, either as part of the base car or perhaps a higher-performance version. So you have the VR30DDTT PLUS electric motors, just like the Acura NSX or the upcoming Lotus Esprit. This would make the new Z blazing fast -- the electric motors are used for instant acceleration off-the-line and then the big twin turbo engine kicks in.

New Z = lower-cost NSX

I remember seeing that new Nissan logo on Nissan EV Show car at one of the auto shows. The comment then was that the new Nissan logo was for EV vehicles. I believe that’s what they are saying here. The new Nissan logo is for electric assist, not the new Z logo.

Could be. I think Nissan is going to put this new corporate logo on all Nissans though, not just EVs, even though it was first shown on an EV concept.

If the new Z car has a twin turbo V6 and electric motors helping...

I don't see this happening at all. They're not going to make a $200k Z car... or even a $100k Z. I think they'll want to stay closer to where the Supra is.

I could see this setup for a new GT-R.

I think you're right. The more I've thought about this, the twin-turbo + electric setup would be way too expensive. Maybe if they made an extreme 400Z trim of some kind...
’21 will be TT only. Electric assist is too expensive right now.
Nissan's Z trademarked for the U.S. has surfaced as well. So we can now breathe a bit easier about it coming to America.
