Nissan: new Roadster version "is still up for debate"

Should Nissan build a new convertible version?

Words from Z Proto, Nissan Z, GT-R, and Nismo product specialist Hiroshi Tamura

A roadster has not been green-lighted for production just yet – “it is still up for debate.” Hiroshi Tamura did say sporty convertibles such as the 300ZX and 370Z represent what the “Z” is all about, thus hinting a droptop 400Z (or whatever it will be called) could be in the works.

I do not think it would look good as a roadster. I personally, did NOT think the 370z roadster was an attractive looking car...

T-Tops would be cool, but would be a very expensive open top option.

So my vote goes for Targa Top.

Would loooove for it to have a Targa Top !!!

A Targa option would be so cool. I'd definitely choose that if available, no question. I think it would work with the Z's lines...

I think the Z Proto's body design lends itself well to a roadster/convertible. This rendering also makes a compelling case for it to happen.

They just need to make them targa tops standard. Nissan doesn’t do great convertible z cars. They always look a little funky. So make them all basically convertibles with targa tops! The 400z already looks like it has one at the back side of the roof. Just needs another line at the front and it’s done.

Welcome to the forum @Ricof529! is your roadster stock or are there mods installed?

Is a targa top/convertible a deal breaker for you on getting a 400Z?

I keep our all stock and never had problems with it! My 2005 roadster had 175k miles on it! My 2017 had for 2 1/2 years no issues either! I truly believe once you start the process changing parts to after market ones. Problems arises!
I wouldn't buy one, but since it's based on the last Z's chassis which already had a drop top the R&D shouldn't be too costly.
I hope so 🙏🏻
I'll be happy with a coupe. The soft top 350/370z roadsters looked awful with the top up...
