A center exhaust setup and diffuser to go with it might just work on the new Z.

Nominated for understatement of the month....Not my cup of tea
I'm sort of in that camp.Nominated for understatement of the month....
Only fault I can see in the OEM layout is that the exhaust tips are too recessed. You see the same issue with the GR86 and BRZ. I read somewhere that it's a safety issue governed by some regulation that forces this.I'm sort of in that camp.
What I would do is upgrade to a more aggressive rear diffuser and keep factory exhaust positions.
I actually don't mind it and keeping them like that even with an aftermarket upgrade might help to not get bothered by cops. They can be tough on obvious mods so this might be one way to avoid that mess.Only fault I can see in the OEM layout is that the exhaust tips are too recessed. So you cover up the Nissan logo and need some kind of flip down license plate thing to get to the key hole if you ever need to manually pop truck and now the tag is in and less than ideal place and all to make it look not as good? Yikes. Original please. Also, not a fan of the high gloss black stuff. The picture with the blue Z looks a bit better than the yellow. Also, lowing the car that much will cause turning/hitting pot hole/speed bump/parking problems so no thanks ( I am not 16 anymore ). Looks like it was dropped 4" or more from the rear pictures. The original exhaust tips are cool looking too.A center exhaust setup and diffuser to go with it might just work on the new Z.

Not a fan of the single/central exhaust point. When I get mine, I’ll savor everything from the factory and slowly, over time, make a few minor mods after they’ve come available, have been tested and reviewed thoroughly by many. I did that with my G37S Coupe 6MT and the long wait yielded mods perfect for my needs and taste (HKS Hi-Power exhaust, Eibach sways, AFE drop-in dry air filters.I’m very happy I lived with the car for over a year before I decided to jump in. It’ll likely be the same for me with the ZA center exhaust setup and diffuser to go with it might just work on the new Z.

This is good info to know. I recall the hatch lock being there in the 370 from watching some videos, but forgot. Now that I'm reminded, the center exhaust solution would need to be really well thought out in order to be viable in something other than a dedicated race car.So you cover up the Nissan logo and need some kind of flip down license plate thing to get to the key hole if you ever need to manually pop truck and now the tag is in and less than ideal place
It may be a rear facing camera (which would be harder to deal with...drill thru license ? ). Hard to tell from picture but cant imagine needing a key to open truck lolThis is good info to know. I rethought my original response (that I didn’t like a central exhaust). If it could reduce weight with a somewhat simplified exhaust system, I’d be all for it. Absent that, dual exhausts are an aesthetic hallmark of power and that’s what I prefer.A center exhaust setup and diffuser to go with it might just work on the new Z.

Seeing this 240z that looks like it has PVC pipe sticking out the back makes me appreciate the one in my OP even more.

I'm a fan of that look!White ceramic coating... a newer twist on an older trend of heat-resistant coatings to seal old mild-steel exhaust systems. Actually fairly appropriate for old-school race cars before stainless, inconel, or titanium exhaust systems became a thing.
