The new GR Corolla has been leaked ahead of its wold debut today. The car is going to get 300 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque from its 1.6L turbocharged 3-cylinder engine. It's also getting all-wheel drive.
From the photos it looks that way, a very interesting setup to say the least.does it have 3 exhaust tips?
3 cylinders. Somehow I don’t see that engine lasting very long. But I admit I am no mechanic. The new GR Corolla has been leaked ahead of its wold debut today. That's pretty wild. I wonder if there's an engineering reason for it.does it have 3 exhaust tips?
It would have to. Does anyone know the boost pressure of the GR Yaris? Because I assume it's got to be more on this Corolla. It's basically the same engine that's in the GR Yaris. And also... An engine is only has durable as the owner allows. It being a 3 cylinder has nothing to do with that. The engine actually has pretty beefy internals.
Just had to look it up. Looks like its factory max is around 20psi or 1.4 bar.It would have to. Does anyone know the boost pressure of the GR Yaris? Because I assume it's got to be more on this Corolla.
Some people have been getting as much as 472 hp and 368 lb-ft of torque from that little engine with 36 psi of boost. It's basically the same engine that's in the GR Yaris. And also... With Subaru specifically I think the GR Corolla is going to win some WRX fans/customers over. Especially since they're not making a STI version with the newest model.Though my instincts have me concerned about three cylinder smoothness and I worry the engine might be overstressed (other posts suggest otherwise), I think this car looks good for what it is. It’s got rally-car cues that just look right on it, the reasons for which I can’t quite put into words yet. Perhaps it reminds me of the FX16 GTS my friend had in college. That’s opposed to my perpetual skepticism of Toyota’s styling efforts what with dumb-looking Lexus grilles the bizarrely fugly MKV Supra. I have no dog in the hot hatch/performance sedan race as I’m either getting a Nismo Z or keeping my G37 coupe, but were I shopping for a WRX, Golf R and the like, this would be at the top of my list though if it’s price intersects with a base Z, that could become an issue for the car.
No doubt. That an STi isn’t on the near horizon suggests they’re thinking of electrifying an STi - fans would HATE that as 100% of STi owners had - and loved - manual transmissions. Subaru has GOT to realize this so it would be logical to assume they would hybridize a WRX to make the STi - with better fuel economy AND a stick. Then again, auto execs don’t always do what is right or logical - just look at the WRX’s “styling” and its anemic output increase. Time will tell. With Subaru specifically I think the GR Corolla is going to win some WRX fans/customers over. Especially since they're not making a STI version with the newest model.
