Toyota is working on a new steering wheel that will rapidly inflate at specific points to alert the driver if it detects unusual behavior. This is expected to be part of the automakers growing list of pre-collision technology features to make driving safer.
In the USPTO filing, Toyota says "a need exists for improved systems for allowing a vehicle to intervene with a driver’s control of a steering wheel to adjust a driving operation of the vehicle without harming or distracting the driver.”
