I autoxed pretty heavily from 2004 until 2018. 95% of all of it was in a Z or GTR. between that and a full race rig for gran turismo in the basement all that really changed how I drove not to mention I would react to things without even really thinking. a lot muscle memory. I did have some bad autoX habits that didnt translate well to long flowing actual tracks from all that. but since I autoXed 3 times a month and went to the track maybe 3 weekends a year my style is still biased towards more the autoX style to this day. a GTR on a 30-35 sec autoX course is like a bull in a china shop. I took a hiatus from AutoX the last few years as it got repetitive to where all I was doing was destroying front tires.

with the new Z I think im going to get back to a fairly regular AutoX schedule as there are some decent venues near me. I remember the most fun was we had this 24 hour autoX once at a fair grounds. it had a a little figure 8 track and even a grandstand. I remember just making laps over and over at 3am in the dead of the night where just a skeleton crew of only the corner workers were still awake.

looking to get a new gopro set up and have some good Z content once I take delivery

Anyone ever have an off track in a Z?

I did my 2nd track day ever in my 350. it was on an old NASCAR track that was no longer used ( Rockingham NC) I think days of thunder was filmed there? It was a Roval configuration with the banks and straight a ways then infield. I caught a spot on the infield turn that might have had some real lights fluids down and the back end of the Z came around and the car went off into the sand. no damage or anything but thats the only time ive ever had an off on a track day

seen some cars get trashed including a new 911 GT3 and even a R34 with some magnesium Volks

Yeah I’ve been off but depending on the track runoffs could be asphalt or dirt. Most memorable was an off sideways into dirt and all the dirt, pebbles and dust went right thru the windows. That took time to clean up the interior! The safety rules here include windows down no exceptions. Ouch! Same off-track rules also, both feet in (clutch, brake) so won’t kill the engine and lose power assists.

Yeah windows down at all the ones I've ever done. I've done one at 28 degrees first session windows down with the heater on high. and then did another track day at VIR during super storm sandy. They didn't cancel the event so we had to go or loose our money. I did about half a day and when the GTR moved over about half a foot to the left at 120 on the front stretch I called it a day 😂

I've always wanted to hit an oval track like that. Did you catch how fast you were able to go on the track?

Side note - Rockingham was used for filming Days of Thunder. It was also used for Talladega Nights.

Anyone know how well the 370z went on track? Seems this will be similar to that with a more powerful turbo motor.
A lot of people use the 350Z and 370Z on the track. What cars have you used on the track so far and what are you looking to get out of a Z in those situations? It helps that there's a lot of aftermarket support.

this was years ago in my 350 so maybe 120. not that fast. the transition to the banked part from the infield would be a little jarring if you didnt hit it at the right angle.

fastest ive been on a track in general ins like 155-160

I heavily track my 370Z.
Depending on the track and pace, brakes will be a huge issue to overcome with this new Z. I expect my AP racing kit to bolt on to the new Z.

Cooling is a general need for any track car and its no different for the vr30. I expect an upgraded charger cooler setup to be essential to maintaining power at the track with the new car.

Would get 18x10.5 wheels and run square tires again, because the nose heavy car needs more front tire than the stock stagger gives.
Suspension required several arms from SPL/Voodoo13 to get to the alignment I wanted with the 370Z, and again I expect this to carry over. Max caster and about -3.5 front, - 2.5 rear camber. Zero to mild toe out in the front and moderate toe in on the rear.

Could go on and on, but overall, I expect just about everything from the 370Z platform to apply here, minus actually getting a decent Lsd from the factory and the vr30 seems to have better oil temps stock than the vq37 did.

Square set up has other benefits, once properly cornerweighted on a track car, esp an understeering one, that is tire rotation to get more life out of these high wear expensive consumables. I imagine the new Z will take 18"s no problem even on caliper fitment.
