I imagine that for a lot of us we won't be driving our Zs year round due to winter weather. So when the snow starts coming down, what do you use as your winter beater?

I've got a 2008 Xterra that has been a trooper over the years dealing with the snow, rain, salt mud, etc.

Great thread. So I don't really have a current winter "beater" per se. But my DD is a Subaru Xtrek. Related to the OP topic...when I bought my 87 300ZX Turbo new...in the northeast...I drove it once in about half inch of snow; can you say fishtail? Went out and plunked down $375 in hard earned cash for a rusted out old Chevy Impala. THAT was a winter beater. Also the car that got me into doing mechanical work when a front sway bar link needed replaced. That car was replaced by a old 82 Ford Bronco...also rusted out and also a beater. Rebuilt the front end on that one. Still go the 87 Z with a tad shy of 20K miles on it.

You can get a lot of bang for your buck with older Impalas if you're just looking for a beater. What year was it? Also, what kind of work have to done to your 300ZX?
So it was 1988 when I bought the Impala which I believe was like a 1974 give or take a few years. Total rust job but nice big V8. Could open the trunk and see the ground. But she was a biggun and could load a lotta stuff. Back seat basically a living room couch...put that to good use. Remember one year got a good size xmas tree and brought it home in the trunk. Sold it for I can't remember what but for a coupla three years of service or so for $375 purchase...you are correct..big bang for the buck. But helps if you have friend come inspection time. As for the Z...bone stock. Sat for 20 years but got her going again in 2021. Changed out all the hoses, belts, etc etc. Other than that...showroom stock. And that's how it will stay. Kinda like my only one in the world 2000 Dyna Wide Glide. Bone stock. NO ONE keeps a Harley stock. People like to mod them to make them unique. Mine is unique due to being stock. Just how I like em.
