Last I checked Nissan said a new Nissan Z roadster "is still up for debate."

But will they actually build it? What does everyone think?

My guess is that they won't end up building one but I do think it looks good with the top off.

The Z Proto, Nissan Z, GT-R, and Nismo product specialist Hiroshi Tamura is the one that said it "is still up for debate" and that sporty convertibles such as the 300ZX and 370Z represent what the “Z” is all about.

It looks so good in the rendering here and I hope they end up making it

Too bad it won't likely happen, and come to think about it, I rare see 370Z convertibles, even 350's.

The only way it would work is if it is as good looking as the Jag F-type convertible with the top down.

Otherwise, it needs to be a folding spyder hard-top.

Keeps the fastback profile, and has a roll-down rear window, with the roof panel up or down.

I hope Nissan WON’T do a convertible because it will not sell well, incurring financial losses and wasting R&D dollars that could be better spent on the Nismo and future updates.

I 100% agree. The Z is already a big deal and has a long shelf life as is.

It look great and all but I agree I don't see this ever happening with the new Z.

Depends on if they see a marketshare for it somewhere between Miata and base Mustang Convertible at less expensive price points... and more expensive ones like Mustang GT Premium, Porsche, Mercedes, BMW, and possibly the most similar, Jaguar F-type roadster.

While the full-convertible looks good... I still would rather see something more 'spyder' like the folding hardtop Miata RF, or Corvette C8 Convertible.

I said in an earlier post that I hope a convertible isn’t made (b/c it won’t sell well and drain R&D $$$ from the Nismo model and future updates) but it sure does look good in this rendering.

Safe to say it won't even happen, at least from Nissan.
I'm totally fine with it as a coupe and actually prefer it that way mainly because I feel it completes the design.

A Nissan exec recently spoke on the possibility of a convertible happening... it's not happening.

The 2023 Nissan Z is a hot ticket item for enthusiasts, but don't expect it to get a convertible variant like its predecessors.

"Hawson seemed to imply that this statement was related to the sort of tuning that went into making the new Z the carefully balanced, finely honed sports car he purports it to be. "There's a, let's say, performance difference when you go convertible—rigidity and whatnot," he told me. This implies the new Z is aimed at a customer that's a bit more performance-focused, as compared to previous generations where a customer may have just been in the market for a convertible and the Nissan seemed like an attractive option.

That's not to say Hawson isn't interested in appealing to a broad audience, of course. He notes that, when compared to other vehicles in the segment, the Z attracts a much less "homogenous" audience. "We want everybody to enjoy it," he continued. "The crowd that comes to a Z is the most diverse; old, young, male, female, and it's really cool." So while a convertible doesn't seem to be in the cards, even though it might potentially broaden its appeal, Hawson feels that this new car will be able to succeed either way through its various options, pricing, and more."

Well, at least not for now.
If Z sales drop off too soon then they might consider just introduce a vert.

Nice idea. However, that would come with a heavy price tag. Isn't it?

Probably some efficient animator could create a realistic 3D animation, just to give us a peak of what we could expect if it ever becomes reality.

Likely $10,000-15,000 parts and labor. Considering that, I don't see it happening for a while. If it does, chance are it will be some shop that found a used Z for cheap and did the conversion as part of a larger project for them.
